Supergroup
A
Foo Fighter, a Queen of the Stone Age and a
member of one of the greatest bands of all
time are set to join forces to create one
hell of a supergroup. Could this also
include Mike Patton?
Dave
Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones are
currently holed up in a Los Angeles studio
recording an album together. The long-touted
project has had the cat let out of the bag
by Homme’s wife, Brody Dalle of
Spinnerette.
Speaking
to Anti-Quiet,
Dalle said: ““I’m not at liberty to
talk about it… but I think (the project)
is pretty fucking amazing. Just beats and
sounds like you’ve never heard before.”
It
was recently revealed that Homme and Mike
Patton of Faith No More were working on a
project together Could this project be what

change things up for me, not as much as

different than what I normally do musically
and visually with Wednesday 13. This is
pretty much straight up rock n roll in the
spirit of NEW YORK DOLLS, old ALICE COOPER,
KISS, SWEET and HANOI ROCKS to name a few.
I'm only being the frontman with this and
leaving the guitars up to the guys. I'm
really excited about it and I think we have

THEATER - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Debuts At #5 On Canadian Charts!
Legendary
progressive metal masters DREAM THEATER’s
latest album, Black Clouds & Silver
Linings has debuted on the Candian Soundscan
charts at #5! As reported earlier today, the
album debuted at #6 on the US' Billboard’s
Top 200 album chart, with first week sales
totaling 40,285. Both US numbers mark the
highest ever first week figures for the
band, who are enjoying the greatest success
of their 25 year career. 12% of the week’s
sales were digital, ranking Black Clouds
& Silver Linings at #21 on the Digital
Albums chart.
Drummer Mike Portnoy had this to say,
“This is truly amazing. After almost 25
years together, Dream Theater is still
growing and progressing and doing bigger and
better than ever. I can't think of many
bands that can claim that. We are truly
thankful to have this incredible support
from fans who believe in the band as a
musical force.”
Such a monumental debut places Dream
Theater, a band known for lengthy epics and
the true “album” format, in the cozy Top
10 company of JONAS BROTHERS, BLACK EYED PEAS
and REGINA SPEKTOR, a truly remarkable feat.
Portnoy continues, “An album with four
songs over 12 minutes in the US Top 10? Hell
must've frozen over! This is one small leap
for Dream Theater, and one giant leap for
music in general.”
Black Clouds & Silver Linings is the
band’s tenth studio album and follow up to
the band’s 2007 Roadrunner Records debut,
Systematic Chaos. In addition to the
standard version CD, the album is also
available on vinyl LP, as well as a
three-disc Special Edition CD that includes
the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes
of the album and a CD of six cover songs. A
limited deluxe collector’s edition boxed
set is also available.
Dream Theater is currently breaking records
in Europe, playing to festival crowds of
over 80,000 adoring fans. The band made
their debut appearance in Israel last month,
rocking a crowd 10,000 strong to their
knees. The band’s own Progressive Nation
tour returns stateside on July 24 in Miami,
and will feature Dream Theater as headliner,
ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, BIGELF and SCALE THE
SUMMIT. The tour - which marks the second
incarnation of Progressive Nation - wraps on
August 29th in Los Angeles.

FATE To Release New Versions Of 'Evil' And
'Curse Of The Pharaohs' On iTunes
MERCYFUL
FATE's 'Evil' is featured as a playable
track on Guitar Hero:
METALLICA. Mercyful Fate re-recorded these
two tracks specifically for the game because
the original masters no longer exist. Now,
the band is making both available to fans to
purchase on iTunes. These versions were
recorded at Earplug Studio in Copenhagen and
Nomad Recording Studio in Dallas, Texas.
They were both mastered by Andy LaRocque at
his Sonic Train Studio in Sweden.
King Diamond comments: “It was a lot of
fun to get a chance to re-record
"Evil" and "Curse of the
Pharaohs" from our 1983
"Melissa" album. It was cool to go
into the studio and try to figure out all
the various harmony vocals and see if I
could still do them. The other guys had a
lot of fun with this project too, and the
whole thing turned out much better than we
could have hoped for. Everyone nailed their
performances and Hank's solos were even
slightly improved. Everything is right where
it should be and with a much better sound!
The “feel” was there and all of the guys
- Hank, Denner, Timi and Bjarne are all
naturals. The versions that will be up on iTunes
were mastered by Andy LaRocque and even with
a 2009 sound, there's no doubt that these
songs were recorded by Mercyful Fate!”
On Guitar Hero: Metallica,
King Diamond himself is a playable character
in the game once you unlock the 'Evil'
track. Plus, a video of King Diamond's
on-stage performance with Metallica at
Ozzfest 2008 in Dallas is included as a
bonus feature in the game.
'Evil' and 'Curse Of The Pharaohs' will be
available for fans to purchase digitally on
July 14th. A special edition picture disc
vinyl single will be available on September

DAYS BEFORE TOMORROW new album The Sky Is
Falling Details
The Sky Is Falling was produced by legendary
rock producer Ron Nevison (Led Zeppelin, The
Who, Heart, Jefferson Starship, Europe,
Kiss, Damn Yankees, and more), and was
released independently in March 2009 while
the band talks with record labels about a
pending distribution deal. The Sky Is
Falling was mixed by Grammy award winning
engineer Earl Cohen (Christina Aguilera,
Usher, Will Smith, Tina Turner), who first
began working with Days Before Tomorrow in
2008 while they were recording a single for
the compilation CD, Hair Apparent: The Main
Man Records Tribute to Hair Bands.

Sky announce permanent drummer
We
are delighted to announce that Alex
Goodwin has become a permanent member of
LIQUID SKY with immediate effect.
Working with Alex for the past six months
has been a blast and has shown the band
that he is exactly what they have been
looking for. The gigs have been fantastic,
older material has been given a new lease
of life and the new tracks we have been
working on are sounding KILLER so we are
all very excited for what the future holds
for us with Alex on board!
The band is going to be holed-up in the
studio for the immediate future, writing
and demoing tracks for the follow-up to
"Identity" but we will be
sneaking out every now and again to play
some shows where we will no doubt be
debuting some more new songs (as we did at
the DoD Festival a few weeks ago), so keep
your eyes peeled for that!

update, THIN LIZZY have parted ways with
guitarist / vocalist John Sykes. Guitarist
Scott Gorham has issued the following
statement:
"Its been a very tough time of late
for the band and myself, firstly with
drummer Tommy Aldridge’s injury and now
the subsequent decision for John and the
rest of the group to go their separate
ways. I can only apologize to everyone who
has supported us over the years, but we
will be back up to full speed soon.’
According to the announcement, "all
Thin Lizzy shows confirmed for 2009 will
be cancelled or postponed until further
notice."

dates this weekend - July 3rd at 10 PM at
Railhead inside Boulder Station
Hotel-Casino, and July 4th at 11 PM at
Ovation at Green Valley Ranch - in Las
Vegas, NV.
Special guests for the dates include
Vinnie Paul (HELL YEAH, DAMAGEPLAN, ex-PANTERA)
Joey Belladonna (ex-ANTHRAX) and Evan
Seinfeld (BIOHAZARD).

ZAKK
WYLDE To Appear On Bones
ZAKK
WYLDE recently completed filming his role
for an episode of the Fox Television show,
Bones, set to begin its fifth season later
this year. No further details are
currently available.
Zakk isn't the first musical guest to
appear on Bones. In season four, MÖTLEY
CRÜE performed as part of an episode
called Dr. Feelgood.
In other news, Zakk has also held meetings
with animators for a new cartoon he is
writing and developing.
Furthermore, he is working on designs for
a new Epiphone guitar.

Progressive
metallers Threshold, Serenity and Spheric
Universe Experience will team up for the
first Essence of Progression tour across
Europe this autumn.
Austrian progressive metallers Serenity
will be Threshold's special guests for the
tour. They are currently promoting their
second album "Fallen Sanctuary",
released in 2008 through Napalm Records.
Serenity opened for Threshold during their
Live Reckoning tour in 2007 and recently
supported Kamelot on their Rule The World
tour.
French progressive metallers Spheric
Universe Experience will open the shows
(except London). The band released their
third album "Unreal" in 2009.
They have opened for acts such as
Scorpions and Uli Jon Roth in France, and
recently performed at the ProgPower
Scandinavia and ProgPower USA festivals.
On opening for Threshold, Spheric Universe
Experience commented: "We are greatly
honoured, proud and excited to play with
such a great band we've been listening to
for years".

tour or on our own headline shows. We're
going to be taking a short break in July
then heading back out to the USA &
Canada to play more supports with AC/DC and
also our own club headline shows. See the

Searching
for the ultimate meltdown of different
styles of music, the story of Profuna
Ocean starts in 2008. Strongly
influenced by their individual vision on
music, four musicians gather up and
formed an alliance. Music is what binds
them; therefore they stick together in a
dark hole in the middle of nowhere,
combining their visions and giving form
to what's inside their minds and finally
presenting it to the world.
Based on an early live demo, recorded
with a mike in the audience at a
festival, Damian Wilson (Treshold)
called Profuna Ocean already a perfect
match as support act while Rick Wakeman
ordered the forthcoming release in
advance to give it airplay at his radio
station in the United Kingdom.
With ‘Watching The Closing Sky’,
their first CD, with just four tracks
but nevertheless a duration of nearly
fourthy minutes – released in May 2009
– it was time to introduce Profuna
Ocean to a wider audience.
The official release of ‘Watching The
Closing Sky’ was done in an
interactive way on radio and internet by
national radio station 3FM. Within one
month after release of the CD one out of
three regional and local radio stations
in The Netherlands picked up the CD to
give it airplay.
This debute CD immediately became an
international release. Besides
distribution in The Netherlands by Coast
to Coast, the band also signed a
distribution deal with Cargo Records for
Germany, Austria and Switzerland while
Koalla Entretenimento from Brazil will
start to promote the CD in Brazil,
Argentina and Chile and Two Side Moon
Promotions will take care of United
Kingdom.
Profuna Ocean is a distinctive and
inspired band with a musical influence
that can be placed in the spherical and
progressive spectrum of music, but is
also a band that does not fit in a
typical genre. They will surprise
you with beautiful, clean musical
phrases, that from one moment to another
with gusts can turn into solid pieces of
rock.
Raoul Potters, guitarist and singer, is
also responsible for writing the songs
that often come directly from his heart.
He often finds his inspiration in the
less beautiful side of life and our
world and does not feel restricted by
the basic structures and lengths for
music, because to him there should be no
rules for music, as long as it sounds
good.
With a colorful palet of spherical
keyboard parts, René Visser transforms
Raoul’s lyrics into a truly symphonic
whole. The tight and steady basis of
Arjan Visser on bass and Fred den Hartog
on drums, ensure the right groove and
rock when it should. This all melts
together into musical master pieces
which undoubtedly will find a willing
ear with the audience.
