This
site has been built for Rock fans by Rock fans! It is the brain
child of two people, Little Linda and Oddity,
who wanted a place on the Net where they could find everything that a rock
fan could possibly want, all in one place.
The name is a tribute to the Mayfair Rock Club in Newcastle upon
Tyne (UK) that was closed down on 21st August 1999.
This is a 100% Rock and Metal music site, we have nothing to do with any shopping
centers!

Frequently
Asked Questions
Q. What was 'The Mayfair' and why
was it so special that this site was started up in remembrance of it?
A. Located in the heart of the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, The
Mayfair was the largest rock club of it's type in the country (at that
time). It was certainly the most famous rock club and was a regular
haunt over the years for many of the famous rock stars that originated
from the North of England.
Opened in the 1960's the first bands started to perform at this venue in
1964. Over the years that followed many bands including Deep Purple,
Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Ozzy, Metallica, U2, Bon Jovi, all took to the stage
and gave the rock fans of the North East of England some fabulous
performances.
Sadly all great things must come to an end and on the 21st August 1999 the
ballroom opened it's doors for one final time. At 2.00 am on 22nd
August 1999 the final song was played and the crowds of rock fans shed
their tears as they joined in the words of Aerosmith's 'Dream On'.
Many have tried to recapture the unique atmosphere that was The Mayfair
since then and all have failed. It was and always will be unique and
no matter what, you can never replace anything that was so perfect.
The Mayfair was my home every Friday and Saturday night from 1986 right up
to it's closing day. It was not simply a club but a major part of
our lives. So many great friends were made during those times.
Nobody gave a damn what you wore, or how you danced, or what bands you
favoured. The only thing that was important was that everyone had a
good time and everyone looked out for each other. They held the best
all-nighters in the land too! The best tribute sites on the net can
be found *here*.

Q. Why is this called 'The Mayfair Mall', why not simply 'The Mayfair'?
A. When this website first started out it was indeed a rock website
dedicated in honour of 'The Mayfair' ballroom. However, at that time
we did have a number of shops selling rock orientated products as part of
the website, many of them based in the North East of England who appealed
to the fans of the old club, hence the 'Mall' being tagged on the end of
the title. The shops have now bloomed in size and all have their own
independent websites now. Since then we've also added the Zine and
Gallery sections to the website.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
Here's a few general rules for some of our sections:
Festivals - Official festival websites will be listed. If we
don't show it let us know and we'll add it. Please remember to tell
us if it's a one off festival or a annual event though when you send it
in!
Labels - These are official records labels and not online stores.
Generally these are labels that have provided us with material to review,
or whose artists have appeared in some shape or form in the Zine section
of the website.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
Q. Will you interview my band and/or review our CD?
A. In the first instance email us. We get a lot of requests to
review/interview bands every day. However, if we like what we hear
we will review it in due course. Again if we think your band have
something that might interest our readers then we will consider
interviewing you.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
Q. I think I might enjoy being a part of the team and contributing
articles, are you looking for additional staff?
A. Yeh sure, we are always looking out for enthusiastic individuals to
help out with the site. Drop us an email and tell us why you'd like
to join the team and how you'd like to contribute to it's success.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
Q. I just love this website and what you guys are doing. Is there
any way I can help support it by perhaps making a small donation?
A. Why yes indeed, we're totally self financed but we're always happy to
accept any donations made towards the cost of running the site.

Thank You!
